Gunnar & Pentar - Rescued HorseGunnar & Pentar
Gunnar and Pentar's owner was looking for a home for them and really wanted to keep them together. At the time I was looking for a friend for Squirt and after seeing how these two beauties were bonded together I said I would love to have them both, as I could not bare the thought of them being separated. Quickly these two became fast friends for Squirty....and then there were three!

UPDATE: A TRIBUTE TO GUNNAR

In February 2013 we lost you to colic, an awful thing for a horse to endure, and I thank God Doug and I were with you to the end trying to comfort you with hugs and kisses, telling you how wonderful you have been. The one word I will always have for you is love. You were such a love, such a gentleman. Everyone who met you loved you and you loved them. You were always the first at the gate to greet visitors, always eager to pose for a photo, always ready to trade a kiss for a carrot, and always stood patiently while I wrapped my arms around you for that morning hug. With the final beat of your heart and one last hug and kiss, we said goodbye. My heartache and sorrow will ease over time, but will never truly fade. Goodbye Gunnar, my love. I will miss you more than words can say.

A TRIBUTE TO PENTAR

My beautiful Pentar, what can I say. Watching you deteriorate due to the affects of Melanoma has been at best, heartbreaking. Pentar arrived at Forever Free Horse Rescue in 2003 with best friend Gunnar, and the two of them settled into life at the ranch with ease. Life was sweet as Pentar and Gunnar flourished. However, Pentar’s happy ever after was not to be. In August of 2011 I discovered a lump on his chest and it was determined to be Melanoma. Watching him closely and under constant supervision it was discovered that it was spreading throughout his beautiful frame, and the prospects for him to survive through until the end of 2011 were slim. But, Pentar fought on. His fighting spirit amazed visitors and staff alike, however, we knew his time was running out. So with his two “mom’s” Yvonne and Missy Deirueste tending to his final moments, Pentar’s spirit lifted up and he was at peace. Pentar, you were one of my first babies at Forever Free, and your light and life is irreplaceable. I will love, miss and cherish you always.
